I have 5 tips for you when riding a taxicab here in the Philippines.

Choose Wisely.

Choose the right taxi for you. I mean, if there's a choice, choose the best. But if there's no choice, choose whatever taxi is there because sometimes, some taxis have so many defects and it's not worth the pay.

Good or Bad Driver?

Trust your instincts. If the driver looks like a drug addict, don't ride the cab. Some taxi drivers are up for scams and hold-ups so if you notice something suspicious, get out of the cab fast if you have a chance. 

Text the Numbers.

Text the plate number and phone number to your family, relatives or friends to be safe. It is found every in the taxi. Usually at the door.

Never answer personal questions.

Some drivers asks their passengers different personal questions or backgrounds about their passengers. Remember, they already have an idea where you live, why give them other personal infos right?

Lock the Doors.

Always lock the doors at the back and in the front to avoid bad guys out there. Most of the cause of scams and hold-ups are from not locking the doors of the car. 

Always check the Price gauge of the Taxi.

Sometimes, there are modus operandi that increase the price rapidly without you knowing it.

Be Updated.

Always check for new modus operandi in taxi to avoid being a victim and know what is the current news about taxis.

Always Pray.

Pray for your safety when riding a taxicab.

Avoid being cheated.

Tell the driver to stop the price gauge if he will reload his gasoline or when going to the comfort room or going to buy water or food etc. It increases as time goes by. And always have bills and coins and try to pay an exact amount because some drivers will say an excuse that they don't have a change for you. Another scenario is when a driver asks for an increase in payment, if they ask a huge increase, Php 50+, find another taxi.

As much as possible, tell the driver to unload you not directly in front of your house.

Some drivers may harm you if they gain interest on you especially to those ladies and they may comeback at your house, just wait for the taxi to go and walk to your house.
